So a lot has been said, written and published about the N1H1 vaccine against the less stylishly named Swine Flu. What to do? To vaccinate or not to vaccinate?
Barbara Mader, RN, CHTP, Reiki Master, and Founder of HMHC writes:
“I am very much against it and feel that it is a hoax on the American people by the Pharmacia. I have received several emails from sources that I trust say the same thing. They have all this vaccination that they want to give so as not to lose dollars on it. It is greed as I see it. Keeping your self healthy is the way to go--and taking simple precautions like washing hands often and sneezing into your sleeve. So put it out there that this retired public health nurse no longer believes in vaccinations, ironic now isn't it?”
Peter S., a long time friend of HMHC often writes to HMHC no matter matter where he lives at the time of his writing! Below he shares simple Flu preventive steps:
* Frequent hand-washing: (well highlighted in all official communications).
* "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).
*Gargle twice a day with warm salt water: (use Listerine if you don't trust salt.) H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.
* Clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water. Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population. Neti pots and sinus rinse kits are available at the drugstore and relatively inexpensive, under $15. Dr. Vinay Goyal, MBBS, DRM, DNB states “the only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is. While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu. “
* Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.
* Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.
Yo, yours truly editor, I like to add the importance of reducing stress. Stress is upon us whether we live a hectic schedule or a more even one. Stress after all is said and read, in the end kills. Luckily, our body tells us before the fatal stage. (I write this with much gratitude.) I know we know, how many times we are hearing this. BUT, let’s ask ourselves: do I have the constant required vigilance to be aware when dis-ease lurks around my corner?
Five Steps to Reduce Stress, according to The Chopra Center :
1. Connect to Your Body
2. Meditate
3. Understand Your Unique Stress Response
4. Practice Yoga (or in my opinion any other relaxed energizing exercise; massage also)
5. Learn the Skills of Conscious Communication
Click on the first link above to read in details how these steps work for the body.

Ukrainian Story Drawn in Sand
I found neat that this artist uses anew art medium to speak of history and a painful time for her folks. As showing in the clip, many people were deeply touched.
“May all beings and creatures be free of suffering and diseases.”
