The Initiative also asks that we assign a portion of our Care Focus to issues taking place in our own country and region that need care and compassion. We are all aware of situations close to our hearts that need extra care. Each issue is important and connected to the "Oneness" of all. Your genuine compassion sent to these issues will connect with the wholeness support and energetic field of the GCI Care Focus meditations and prayers. GCI realizes there is increasingly more going on globally than can be specifically addressed in this forum and appreciates your understanding and care.

Care Focus – Let’s create a heart-field environment of unconditional love around these areas for the highest best outcome for all involved.

January Mixed Sweat Lodge Rescheduled

Please note that due to inclement weather, the Mixed Sweat Lodge at HMHC, of Sunday, January 24, 2010 has been postponed as Sonnie Licona describes below:

"Memo and I regret this announcement - but due to conditions beyond our control we need to postpone the Lodge. A foot of snow has already fallen in Cloudcroft, it is supposed to snow through the night, and possibly tomorrow as well. They are already talking about road closures. "

In addition, I received a call from my mom asking for my help - so I am in Albuquerque. I would like to ask for your prayers. She has just completed her third round of chemo and is preparing to start radiation. She is really having a hard time.

Haiti

As a member of the Healing Touch community I am
joining with others everyday at noon for the rest of this month by sending
healing, light, peace,calm and strength to Haiti. As we do this we are creating
a rolling wave of healing and light that surrounds the people of Haiti. I invite
others who may or may not be a member of the Healing Touch community to
join us every day at noon and that will only strengthen our efforts of
compassion for the suffering.

Jeremy Gilley is an actor turned film maker, who in the late 1990's became preoccupied with questions about the fundamental nature of humanity and the issue of peace. He decided to explore these through the medium of film, and specifically, to create a documentary following his campaign to establish a day of ceasefire and non-violence.
In 1999, Jeremy founded Peace One Day, a non-profit organisation, and in 2001 Peace One Day's efforts were rewarded when the United Nations unanimously adopted the first-ever day of global ceasefire and non-violence on 21 September annually - Peace Day.
In 2007 according to the UN, over 100 million people were active on Peace Day, in 192 countries. There were life-saving initiatives in 14 countries, and over 80 activities in Afghanistan alone where 1.4 million children were vaccinated against polio. (YouTube.)

 

Pipe Ceremony at HMHC: May 17, 2009

Sunday May 17th, Sonnie and Memo Licona and Sweat Lodge members and friends will be celebrating  preparations for the upcoming Sundance. They will meet at High Mesa Healing Center at 10:00 a.m. and will hold a Pipe Ceremony.

"Many of you have expressed a desire to support from home while we are gone," writes Sonnie, "we will talk about how you can do that. Along with bringing tobacco and food to share, we are asking everyone to contribute to the SUNDANCE Food Drive. Since we are a small group our monies are also small, so pick one or two items from the list below and please bring it along on Sunday or drop off at High Mesa Healing Center before the end of May. We will also have a love offering in case you would like to make a monetary donation to be spent where it's needed for the camp. If you choose any of the larger items (like drink coolers) please e-mail Linda at:

What is Kirtan Singing?

Kirtan (Sanskrit: "to repeat") is call-and-response chanting performed in India's devotional traditions.. When this chanting is done as a private meditation it is called japa but performed congregationally with instruments, and often dancing, it is called kirtan or sankirtan (from san (complete) kirtan). The person performing the Kirtan is known as a Kirtankar.

In the ancient Sanskrit text the Bhagavad-gita(9.13) Krishna states that great souls are always engaged in glorifying him with kirtan. The practice was popularized in the Hindu devotional revival of the fifteenth CCE, exemplified by the Bengali Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, and others.

Kirtan practice involves the chanting of hymns or mantrasto the accompaniment of instruments such as the harmonium, the two-headed mrdanga or pakawaj drum and karatal hand cymbals. It is a major tenet of Vaisnavadevotionalism, Sikhism, the Santtraditions, some forms of Buddhism, and other sects.
