Wisdom Emerging Workshop

Recently Barbara attended an IONS workshop entitled Wisdom Emerging.  Below she shares about her experience there as well as some pictures from the workshop.

Over the course of four days, a group of 36 from across the US and as far away as the Bahamas and Australia met one another at the intersection of leadership, spirituality and courageous action. (I was one of 36) Both an indoor and outdoor labyrinth were used in service of eliciting and deepening heart-felt wisdom at both the personal and collective transformation. Together we learned about the nature of social fields, our power within them and our power to shift them.

It was a nourshing, enriching and profound direct exploration of ourselves as co-creators of a shared reality- learning to embody new models of group power and leadership, preparing ourselves as way-finders and guides at this time when our human systems strain between structure and ambiguity, familiar habits of the past and elusive pathways to our future.

The Paradox of Meditation

The meditation experience is interesting because on one hand it is about
completely letting go of everything, and on the other hand, it is about paying more
attention. It's a paradox. Let go of everything and have the courage and faith
and conviction to keep letting go, fearlessly, no matter what arises. But don't
let go of consciousness, don't let go of attention, don't let go of awareness.
Meditation is the paradox between those two positions.

Join in the Winter Solstice Celebration at HMHC on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 6:30 p.m. All are invited.

International Day of Peace Ruidoso Activities

7:00-7:30 am Peace Begins with You-Morning Meditation Meditate with peaceful music followed by a short presentation on finding your "peace within". This event will be held behind the Ruidoso Public Library at the outdoor theater.

12:00-1:00 pm Warriors for Peace - Peaceful Leaders in History Join the ENMU History Club who will share information on Peace in History. Bring your lunch and enjoy refreshments at ENMU-Ruidoso, room 105.

4:00-5:00 pm Kids for Peace - Peace Day Parade Meet at the Kids Connection Pavillion for music and activity followed by a short walking parade procession around a portion of the Links Walking Trail beginning around 4:30 pm and ending at the outdoor stage behind the library. Bring your peace costumes, flags, banners, bubbles, buttons, bells and other noise makers, and let the communities of Lincoln County and Mescalero know you value peace! This is an event for all ages.

6:00-8:30 pm - Give Peace a Dance Enjoy peace shared through the arts at an all ages Peace Day Celelbration held at Common Ground in the Sierra Mall (next to ENMU). Scheduled activities include live music, dancing, "Make Art, Not War" crafts table and speakers addressing the value of peace in our homes, schools, and community.

All Peace Day activities are free thanks to local community partnerships. Special thanks to Andrea Reed of Common Ground, Mayor Ray Alborn, Parks and Recreation, ENMU-Ruidoso, ENMU-Ruidoso History Club, High Mesa Landscaping, Lou Ann Ellison, others who have contributed to planning this event. Bring friends and enjoy the day.

National Nurses Week 2011

Greetings! National Nurses Week is celebrated each year beginning on May 6th and ending on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. The purpose of the week is to recognize the contributions of the nation’s registered nurses and to educate the public about the role we play in meeting the diverse health care needs of the American people.

This year, the American Nurses Association (ANA), with its constituent and state nurses associations, salute the nation’s 3.1 million nurses with the theme Nurses Trusted to Care.

The theme reflects an enduring belief in an ever-changing world: the public trusts us.  For the 11th year, nurses were voted the most trusted profession in Gallup's annual survey that ranks professions for their honesty and ethics.

That trust takes on added significance now.  As our nation undertakes transformative health care reform, we have unprecedented opportunities to optimize our practice, drive change and shape the health care system of the future.  Our knowledge and expertise are in demand, and how we rise to meet today’s challenges will influence how our health care system looks in 10 years.

Put more simply, the nursing profession has an opportunity to apply its unique talents and knowledge to make the changes nurses know are best for patients.  In clinical settings, communities and at policy-making tables, we need to raise our voices and be heard.  The good news is that every nurse is a leader!

Our country is calling on us to embrace our role as leaders. This year, during National Nurses Week, ANA is focusing a spotlight on leadership.  I hope that you will join us for a webinar about leadership on May 10 and that you will cast your vote in our “I am a nurse, I am a leader” video contest.

As I travel around the country sharing ANA’s message, I am awed and inspired by what nurses do every day. Your dedication, innovation and commitment are remarkable, and you demonstrate every day why nurses continue to earn the public’s trust. Thank you for all you do. Thank you for supporting your professional association. Together, we can take the lead on shaping the health care system of the future.

LAUGHTER YOGA CLUB

Join Laughter Yoga Leaders Michele Caskey and Jan Butchofsky at HMHC beginning Thursday, March 10th, for Levity Infusion, an hour of laughing, breathing, clapping and moving where laughter is facilitated as an exercise and quickly becomes authentic, jubilant and fun through incorporation of eye contact and child like playfulness. Laughter Yoga is a means of learning to laugh for no reason without the use of comedy, humor or jokes. No actual yoga postures are involved, but the practice is yogic in that it brings balance to the body/mind/spirit as a unified whole. As Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of the laughter yoga movement says, "When you laugh you change. When you change the whole world changes." Come see how adding more laughter to your life can lead to a greater feeling of harmony, connection and wellness.  The Laughter Yoga Club will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.

Michele Caskey is a Laughter Yoga Teacher, Expressive Arts Practitioner, Reiki Master and visual artist who has been studying and teaching the link between creative expression and energy healing for over 10 years. Her personal laughter practice has expanded her ability to process and release limiting thoughts and beliefs empowering her work as an artist and healer. International Women's Day - March 8, 2011

Sanctuary on the River is hosting this all-day event which is sponsored by The Women's Information Network.  March 8th will be a global celebration of women past, present, and future.  Women worldwide will connect to celebrate and honor women.  Women will "Celebrate, Commit and Connect."  Sanctuary on the River Inspired Living Center is located at 207 Eagle Drive in Ruidoso.  On Tuesday, doors will open at 9:00 a.m. and the LIVE streaming will be ongoing from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.  The event is FREE and by reservation salad lunches may be ordered from the Blue Goose Cafe for $10.  Lunch orders must be called in to the Sanctuary by noon on Monday, March 7th at 575.630.1111.  Call the same number to reserve your seat for International Women's Day.
