Barbara and friends of HMHC  support and encourage young people  (Peace Village) and causes which promote health today  and into future generations. Please take the time to read about Chad Bullock, a young Anti-Tobacco activist of North Carolina.  He took a leading part in making Durham Bulls Athletic Park a smoke-free park. Not a small feat in tobacco country !

ChadBullock

"Chad Bullock, the 2006 South Regional Youth Advocate of the Year Award Winner, is currently one of the nine finalists in the Do Something Awards which will be presented as part of the FOX Teen Choice Awards show scheduled to air on August 5th. This contest honors amazing young people who have tackled a problem they saw in the world. Each finalist has been awarded $10,000 and the winner will receive an additional $100,000, all going to their favorite cause.

Chad has been nominated for his work as an Anti-tobacco activist and his youth advocacy work. He has trained 15,000 teens nationwide in developing an action plan, has led activists to make Durham Bulls Athletic Park smoke-free, and petitioned the Attorney General to sue cigarette companies targeting children.

But Chad needs our help to win. The winner is decided by an online vote. Voting is only open to 13-19 year olds so please ask your kids, neighbors, and other teens you know to vote for Chad. They can vote once each day. If Chad wins, his $100,000 prize will go to an organization working against Big Tobacco, making Chad’s win not only a great achievement for himself, but also a win for the lives it will help save. "

Click Do Something to hear Chad and the news media speak of the project.

Voting is only open to 13-19 year olds so please ask your kids, neighbors, and other teens you know to vote for Chad. Please go get the teenagers you to know and ask them to VOTE NOW for Chad!

Thank you for sharing the news, links and clicks for a smoke-free choice!

The Girl Who Silenced the World for 5 Minutes

Yes, it could be considered  a "trend" nowadays: kids speaking to adults on how we are destroying Mother Earth. These messages and other alike pleas have come via emails, videos, music, etc. Actually, it's not really a "new thing."  Every generation in its youth has been calling for a change or another. What's different about today's calls, then? Your answer is as good as mine.

My answer is that I hear the underlying fear. I hear the anxiety of loosing life as we know it, as it is supposed to be. Life ending for good. No future left. A cry for help. What to do? I can't bring back as the girl says in the video, species or forests that have disappeared. But I can take a child in my arms, listen, acknowledge, and nurture strength to face with compassion change and accept things the way they are. I can show that I heard the message and that I care in choosing a behavior which will honor all and everything as it is. I can show and teach skills to cope.

The Peace Village Camp is the opportunity for Teen Counselors, Teachers, Camp Staff and HMHC Staff to hear worries and change them into strength in demonstrating and encouraging peaceful life practices.

Aloha, Hurray!

This is great news and great hope to me that other states will follow!

Mahalo Nui Loa, HawaiiHawai
"The Hawaii state legislature passed a landmark measure on May 1, that would make the state the first in the nation to require solar water heaters as a standard feature on all new homes. The solar roofs bill, which received unanimous support in the House and only two dissenting votes in the Senate, was the top priority of the Hawaii Sierra Club this legislative session, " announces the Sierra Club.

"This is the type of transformative policy that will define Hawaii's clean energy future," says Hawaii Sierra Club Director Jeff Mikulina. "We are the Saudi Arabia of sun -- every house in the state should be tapping into this free resource."

In all truth, other states are being just as innovative. Visit the Sierra Club  to read about some of them.

For Earth Day: April 22, 2008

Tuesday, Earth Day!

"Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22."  (From Wikipedia)

Visit the official site of International Earth Day to find a ton of information on when, why, and how John McConnell came to write the Earth Charter, to view the Earth Magna Charta document, to read about McConnell's biographies and his thoughts on Global Peace. The site also explains the origin of St Francis Day and the Minutes of Peace, both practiced in December.Earthflag

Earth Day Flag, designed by McConnell

According to USAToday, this past Sunday, people "picked up garbage, turned in old cellphones and computers and took nature walks at pre-Earth Day events Sunday. Environmental leaders are aiming for an even bigger effort Tuesday, when they hope 1 million Americans will call their congressional representatives to lobby for legislation to fight global warming. On a more modest scale, grocery stores in Los Angeles will give away 50,000 reusable bags today and Tuesday, and, starting Tuesday, Whole Foods Market stores will no longer offer plastic bags."(Traci Watson, USAToday, April 20th)

Easy, simple things to do for each of us, every day...

Take a child, your family or friends to The Nature Conservancy Plant A Billion Trees interactive website where clicks take the viewers to The Atlantic Forest, to vitually "see" trees grow while reading their descriptions, etc. This is simply a cool, colorful, attractive browsing while learning about Trees.

Plant a tree if you have the space around you. Plant a virtual tree if you can click...

Go to A Sierra Club Quiz to figure out how soon an Energy Efficiency Buyer gets money back in the pocket while  shopping "green." I bet you'll do fine. Or be a wise crack like me, and completely fail the test!

Visit periodically Earth friendly sites to keep practicing Earth conscious living. One step at a time...

WORLDWIDE DRUM VIGIL MARCH 21

Heartbeat_newsletter_picture_in_jp

: WORLDWIDE DRUM VIGIL MARCH 21

Beloved Community Drum Keepers,

We have the unique opportunity to Sound the Heartbeat Together in our MARCH 21, 2008 WORLDWIDE DRUM VIGIL. The Grandmother Drum International Peace Project and Community Drum Keepers will join together with:

1. The International Indigenous University: The Ceremony of 8,000 Sacred Drums.

8,000 DRUMS on March 21 at noon / central time
March 21, 2008

From the Otomi Ceremonial Center
Temoaya, Mexico

According to a Sacred Prophecy revealed at the Otomi Ceremonial Center by the Otomi Elder Sages as a Vision of our Venerable Ancestors, the day when the sounds of 8,000 Sacred Drums join together will be the beginning of the healing of Mother Earth, of all the species and the human family in order to be able to live together on the road to Sacred Peace.

It is time to unify ourselves and rediscover all the seeds of the Four Directions in order to reactivate cosmic energy, heal historical wounds and heal Mother Earth by respecting life, liberty and the dignity of our Peoples. The first great ceremony was held March 21, 2004 in Temoaya, Mexico and there will be drum circles joined around the world on the Spring Equinox continuing every year until 2012.

Sacred Principles:

*Sealing and healing the wounded vertices of Mother Earth is urgent.
*Identifying and activating the Indigenous energy centers at sacred places is our duty.
*Planting and strengthening consciousness of love and respect for our Mother Earth is everyone's work.
*The Indigenous ancestral recommendation to create and practice the Grand Culture of Peace and Life is fundamental.
*Recognition of the use of the energy and healing properties of our sacred instruments is a principle goal of our Indigenous Mission.

Fulfillment of the Prophecies...

500 year-old Otomi Prophecy...When 8000 sacred drums play together, an intense healing of Mother Earth will commence.

Inca... Call it the 'Age of Meeting Ourselves Again'.

Hopi... Predict a 25 year period of purification followed by End of Fourth World and beginning of the Fifth.

Mayan... Call it the 'end days' or the end of time as we know it

Maori... Say that as the veils dissolve there will be a merging of the physical & spiritual worlds.

Zulu... Believe that the whole world will be turned upside down.

Hindu... Kali Yuga (end time of man). The Coming of Kalki & critical mass of Enlightened Ones.

Aztec... Call this the Time of the Sixth Sun. A time of transformation. Creation of new race.

Pueblo... Acknowledge it'll be the emergence into the Fifth World

Cherokee... Their ancient calendar ends exactly at 2012 as does the Mayan calendar.

Tibetan... Kalachakra teachings are prophesies left by Buddha predicting Coming of the Golden Age.

Egypt... According to the Great Pyramid (stone calendar), present time cycle ends in year 2012 AD

Dogon... Say that the spaceship of the visitors, the Nommo, will return in the form of a blue star.-Courtesy of Bernardo

NOTE: 8000 Drums Magic Number
This number 8000 has a very special relationship.

It has been found that it takes a certain number of
people to start a shift within human consciousness.
That number is the square root of 1 per cent.

There are over 6.5 billion people on Mother Earth right
now and square root of 1 per cent is around 8000

So the 8000 is around the minimum number we need to start this
process of healing. Amazing!!! this prophesy has a number directly
related with our human consciousness.

As we do this drumming, we can also FEEL the HEALING
of ourselves and Mother Earth as if it has already happened.

In other words, step into that future where this healing has
already taken place and give THANKS to the CREATOR for
giving us this blessing.

NOTE CHANGE TO Women’s Lodge – Year end thanks to endings and new beginnings

POST ALERT UPDATE - AN OOPS IN THE DATE - PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF CHANGE

The Women's Lodge is on Saturday, December 29Everything else is the same.

Women’s Lodge – Year end thanks to endings and new beginnings

Please join us for the last Lodge of 2007!  We will hold the Women's Lodge on Saturday, December 29th starting at 9:00 a.m.  Please arrive early to help with the preparations for the lodge.  It makes a huge difference to be involved in the entire process.  It can be difficult to arrive shortly before the lodge without time to relax, focus on your intention, and to make your prayer ties.  Not only that, the more helping hands we have - the easier it is to put things together.

We will have a feast to follow the lodge so please bring something along to contribute.  A tobacco offering for the water pourer and fire keeper is customary.  A love offering is also appreciated but not neceassry to attend.

Come and join together in the power of the femenine as we say goodbye and thank you for all we have learned, received, and released in 2007.

Mitakuye Oasin,

Sonnie   please call with any questions  575-430-3715

Winter Solstice Celebration – Updates are here - Mark your calendars!

Winter Solstice Celebration ~  Mark those calendars now!

Come join us for a Winter Solstice celebration on Friday, December 21, 2007.

Starting time will be 10AM

The Winter Solstice will be celebrated on December 21, 2007, at 10 AM in the yurt at High Mesa Healing Center.  Zoe deNegri will be in charge of our 3rd annual celebration.  Everyone is invited to participate in this event.

The Winter Solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year for the sun is at it's greatest distance from the equator.  This is a traditional time for recognition of rebirth involving gatherings of people for celebrations and festivals of light.  Though the Winter Solstice lasts an instant, the term is also sometimes used to refer to the full day and night (24 hrs) within which the event occurs.

The solstice itself may have remained a special moment in the annual cycle of the year since Neolithic times.  This is attested to by the physical remains found in the ruins of such sites as Stonehenge and Machu Pichu. The primary axis of these locations seems to have been carefully aligned on a sight-line framing of the winter solstice sunrise and the winter solstice sunset. The winter solstice appears to have been extremely important as a means of helping bring moral support for the survival of a tribe through the long winters.  It was not uncommon for many to die of starvation and cold from the freezing weather and harsh conditions.

The solstice will bring us a powerful moment of integration and balance.  It is a time to pause and reflect, and to be within our own Inner Heart Temple to help us balance and ignite our own energy. This will be a powerful time to work with our heart meditations.

We will continue with the Winter Solstice Celebration on Saturday, December 22, with a sweat lodge at 9 am. This is a mixed lodge so all are welcome to participate in this time of prayer and purification.  contact Sonnie at sonnie@gmackre.com

There are even more details about Sweat Lodges on our web site.
