Barbara will be welcoming a second rotation of nursing students from Guanajuato University, the oldest university on this continent (1732). She was invited to give a presentation on Holistic Nursing to their conference of 600 in 2009 and 2010 when the university asked to send students to her to teach them how to integrate holism into their practices. This was a scientific conference in Celaya, Mexico and Barbara spoke on healing touch, spirituality in health care and energy medicine. Her presentation was so different than the other scientific presentations, she concluded that they wanted the students exposed to holistic nursing. It was the
International Year of the Nurse, so she presented some Florence Nightingale coins
to the nurse leaders. This visit to the Lincoln County community is an opportunity to make a difference as a relationship is created with these students, their professors and their Dean of the School of Nursing. Barbara is teaching them so much more than Holistic Nursing and Healing Touch. She is also showing them how the Lincoln County community works together to bring health and wellness into our mountain village and the county. Just how open and welcoming this community can be is demonstrated as the students visit the many agencies that work together in cooperation for the benefit for our community and our visitors.
Let us continue to promote Ruidoso as a place to come for health and wellness, a place for healing.
Barbara will be welcoming them into NM this Sunday, February 17th, in Albuquerque. Vans have been rented for the 8 students and 4 faculty members. Barbara's friend, Jane Floyd, has graciously agreed to lodge them at the Village Lodge as she did for the previous visit at a very special rate, for she says that she “believes in what we are doing”. That has been the response from many in the community for which Barbara is most grateful. She sees this as yet another way of building community.
