Wisdom Emerging Workshop

Recently Barbara attended an IONS workshop entitled Wisdom Emerging.  Below she shares about her experience there as well as some pictures from the workshop.

Over the course of four days, a group of 36 from across the US and as far away as the Bahamas and Australia met one another at the intersection of leadership, spirituality and courageous action. (I was one of 36) Both an indoor and outdoor labyrinth were used in service of eliciting and deepening heart-felt wisdom at both the personal and collective transformation. Together we learned about the nature of social fields, our power within them and our power to shift them.

It was a nourshing, enriching and profound direct exploration of ourselves as co-creators of a shared reality- learning to embody new models of group power and leadership, preparing ourselves as way-finders and guides at this time when our human systems strain between structure and ambiguity, familiar habits of the past and elusive pathways to our future.

The Paradox of Meditation

The meditation experience is interesting because on one hand it is about
completely letting go of everything, and on the other hand, it is about paying more
attention. It's a paradox. Let go of everything and have the courage and faith
and conviction to keep letting go, fearlessly, no matter what arises. But don't
let go of consciousness, don't let go of attention, don't let go of awareness.
Meditation is the paradox between those two positions.

First Global Event for A Course in Miracles Students Builds Community

Beginning May 19, 2011 the Living A Course in Miracles tele-class offers the wisdom of eight beloved teachers followed by real-life assignments and support. Hosted by Reverend Jennifer Hadley, teachers include Colin Tipping, Marci Shimoff, David Hoffmeister, Paul Ferrini, Gary Renard, Lucia Espinosa and Earl Purdy.

Living A Course in Miracles is the first global tele-class dedicated to serving A Course in Miracles students. The tele-class will start Thursday May 19 and run through July 7, 2011. Thanks to sponsors and volunteers, all presentations are free, and will be available for free replay for forty-eight hours. To participate, all you need is a phone or internet access.

The average American uses 500 plastic bags every year. If everyone in the United States tied their annual consumption of plastic bags together in a giant chain, it would reach around the Earth’s equator 776 times!

Plastic bags are bad for the environment, from the oil used in their production to the devastation of sea life caused by the millions of bags that end up in the ocean. We need to stop using them.

So we're asking folks to Bag the Bag this Earth Day, and pledge to give up using plastic bags.

And by taking the pledge, you'll be entered to win one of five copies of Bag It on DVD. Bag It is an award-winning documentary about the problem of single-use plastic and what can be done about it.

Mindfulness-Based Well-Being

Mindfulness-Based Well-Being

Join Barbara Mader and Misty McArthur for an experiential day retreat filled with renewal, restoration, and rejuvenation.  Using time honored traditions along with evidence-based practices, this workshop will provide the tools necessary to assist you in embracing integrated health and well-being in your daily life.  Some of the mindfulness-based wellness techniques include Qigong, guided imagery, emotional freedom technique, labyrinth meditation, progressive relaxation, insight journaling, and reflective sharing.  Bring a lunch.  Contact ENMU Ruidoso Community Education Dept. at 257-3012 to register.

Sheng Zhen Qi Gong will begin Friday, April 1, 2011, and will be held each Friday and Monday thereafter from 9:30-10:30 a.m. during the month of April.  It will be facilitated by Barbara Humble.  Everyone is invited to attend.  Donations are welcome.

LAUGHTER YOGA CLUB

Join Laughter Yoga Leaders Michele Caskey and Jan Butchofsky at HMHC beginning Thursday, March 10th, for Levity Infusion, an hour of laughing, breathing, clapping and moving where laughter is facilitated as an exercise and quickly becomes authentic, jubilant and fun through incorporation of eye contact and child like playfulness. Laughter Yoga is a means of learning to laugh for no reason without the use of comedy, humor or jokes. No actual yoga postures are involved, but the practice is yogic in that it brings balance to the body/mind/spirit as a unified whole. As Dr. Madan Kataria, the founder of the laughter yoga movement says, "When you laugh you change. When you change the whole world changes." Come see how adding more laughter to your life can lead to a greater feeling of harmony, connection and wellness.  The Laughter Yoga Club will meet the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 5:30-6:30 p.m.  There is no charge, but donations are appreciated.

Michele Caskey is a Laughter Yoga Teacher, Expressive Arts Practitioner, Reiki Master and visual artist who has been studying and teaching the link between creative expression and energy healing for over 10 years. Her personal laughter practice has expanded her ability to process and release limiting thoughts and beliefs empowering her work as an artist and healer. Jan Butchofsky is a Laughter Yoga Leader, public speaker and photographer specializing in travel and culture.
