Barbara and friends of HMHC  support and encourage young people  (Peace Village) and causes which promote health today  and into future generations. Please take the time to read about Chad Bullock, a young Anti-Tobacco activist of North Carolina.  He took a leading part in making Durham Bulls Athletic Park a smoke-free park. Not a small feat in tobacco country !

ChadBullock

"Chad Bullock, the 2006 South Regional Youth Advocate of the Year Award Winner, is currently one of the nine finalists in the Do Something Awards which will be presented as part of the FOX Teen Choice Awards show scheduled to air on August 5th. This contest honors amazing young people who have tackled a problem they saw in the world. Each finalist has been awarded $10,000 and the winner will receive an additional $100,000, all going to their favorite cause.

Chad has been nominated for his work as an Anti-tobacco activist and his youth advocacy work. He has trained 15,000 teens nationwide in developing an action plan, has led activists to make Durham Bulls Athletic Park smoke-free, and petitioned the Attorney General to sue cigarette companies targeting children.

But Chad needs our help to win. The winner is decided by an online vote. Voting is only open to 13-19 year olds so please ask your kids, neighbors, and other teens you know to vote for Chad. They can vote once each day. If Chad wins, his $100,000 prize will go to an organization working against Big Tobacco, making Chad’s win not only a great achievement for himself, but also a win for the lives it will help save. "

Click Do Something to hear Chad and the news media speak of the project.

Voting is only open to 13-19 year olds so please ask your kids, neighbors, and other teens you know to vote for Chad. Please go get the teenagers you to know and ask them to VOTE NOW for Chad!

No More Plastic!

Enough plastic bags!  Or at least, lets use and re-use them with safe disposal in mind.

Barbara and friends of HMHC are concerned about how plastic bags are carelessly spread around the world, killing and damaging with a magnitude difficult to imagine from kitchens or grocery stores.

I remember when i lived in Europe several years back, I used to get a few free plastic bags from the supermarket to bag a whole lotof stuff. Stuff was overflowing and bags breaking well before arriving to the car. Then when people asked for more plastic bags at the check-out counters, markets started to charge for them. People grunted. Finally, i remember one day they were not available anymore, and my stuff went un-bagged from the cart into the trunk. Most markets at that time cut them off not so much out of environmental concern but mostly to reduce costs. No matter. It did help the environment. Most important however is that my stuff made it home safe without being wrapped, and wrapped and re-wrapped in plastic. It did not bother me that my stuff came unwrapped. But then, i did grow up in a country where people carried  bread under their armpit! Well. There is a middle ground between over-wrapping stuff and carrying food under the armpit: and that is, -drum roll, please, a re-usable bag. Let's do it! Please click Download Plastic_Bags.pdf to view what plastic bags do to the planet and join those who are responsible shoppers and environment conscious citizens. Thank you.

The picture is from reusablebags.com which has a counter running, showing how many plastic bags are consumed this year. Wow!

On HMHC Peace Village Camp: from Barbara

Pv2 Peace Village

"If we are to attain real peace in this world we have to begin with the children." Mahatma Gandhi

Peace Village is a day camp for kids ages 7-13 held annually at High Mesa Healing Center located in Alto, New Mexico. This year the dates are July 21- 25; 9:00 am - 3:30 pm daily. This is our fifth year to host PV. Our focus is to teach kids about non-violent conflict resolution in all situations, while giving them tools to be at peace within themselves. The teachers are made up of young adults that have been team leaders in previous years and adults that have also been involved in Peace Village. This year we have a special treat for the day campers; three mornings will be spent at the Ruidoso Equine Center interacting with the horses.  Kids are our wonderful future and we feel they need to be nurtured and taught to be aware of the world around them, as well as self awareness.

Our classes will consist of non-violent conflict resolution (tools for handling various situations peacefully), nutrition (tools for knowing how to take care of their bodies), recycling/caring for the earth and media literacy (tools to decipher marketing and other information thrown at them daily).

These are the words from one of our teachers:

" Four years stand between who I am now and who I was when I started working with Peace Village at the 2004 inaugural camp at High Mesa Healing Center. (This was the first in New Mexico) A soon-to-be-high school senior then, I had little experience working with kids and even less experience teaching kids about peace.

I can confidently say that week so long ago defined who I am to this very day. I have just finished my junior year at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. During my first two years at Reed I reflected on those times I had at Peace Village and decided I wanted to become a teacher. I have since taught the non-violent conflict resolution curriculum the last two Peace Village camps, and I will be returning to Ruidoso in July to teach at our fifth camp.

But of course, the most important aspect of Peace Village is the connection we make with the kids. My first year, I met a thirteen-year-old, a boy who came to us to work off some community service he had (for some reason unknown to us) already accrued in middle school. He was surly, he had some problems at home and he just wasn't opening up to us. By the end of the week, he managed to crack a smile or two.

It was the next year, when he came back to us, that he really began to shine. Since he was older than the other kids, I asked him if he wanted to be my assistant age-group leader. He obliged, and with this new responsibility, he became a mentor to the other kids. We invited him to eat lunch with the staff, where he hung out with the other teen volunteers. Though none of us have seen him since, we know that he will remember his two weeks he spent with us, because we took the time to make a connection with him. I believe that he felt genuinely cared about by everyone he worked with.

Peace Village teaches students about non-violence, about how to resolve conflicts, about taking care of oneself and one's neighbors, about getting along with nature, and most importantly, about building community. Peace Village unites children from Ruidoso, Alto, Capitan, Mescalero, and even Roswell and Las Cruces with each other and with caring adults and teenagers from the community. Many of our volunteers have been with Peace Village more than one year, some as many as all four! Some of the children who have gone through all four years with us are now returning as volunteers for the fifth. Peace Village works to build community and support youth, we invite you to join us in this project and help us continue our mission and strengthen our program we love so much. "

It does indeed take a village to raise a child and this village has stepped forward to this call on behalf of our children. Several restaurants donate meals for the volunteers every year for which we are most grateful. Many have given scholarships so that all children may have the experience of Peace Village As we grow and expand there are even more ways to be of service in this community building process.

If you feel so moved to become a part of this in anyway please contact Kaylah Glasgow, Director at 937-0876, or Barbara Mader at 336-7777.

National Nurses Week: A Special Gift from HMHC to All Dedicated Nurses

To honor their dedication to the health of others, High Mesa Healing Center is celebrating National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2008, with a Complementary Healing Touch Session for nurses. The gift also includes free Migun Bed Sessions.

Please read on how Barbara Mader, RN,CHTP and HMHC Director, is expressing the passion and dedication of her own vocation, and of those who chose to serve others in the Health Care field.

"A Profession and a Passion"

Often described as an art and a science, nursing is a profession that embraces dedicated people with varied interests, strengths and passions because of the many opportunities the profession offers. As nurses, we work in emergency rooms, school based clinics, home health and homeless shelters to name a few. We have many roles- from staff to educator, to nurse practitioner and nurse researcher and serve all of them with passion for the profession and with a strong commitment to patient safety.

Nursing is a calling, a lifestyle, a way of living, a profession that cannot be lived in isolation; nurses rely on each other for the synergistic effect of teamwork of care giving. It is appropriate that we honor nurses this week in May for the difference they make by stepping into people's lives. Nurses are the heart of healthcare."

Please come out to enjoy a wonderful, loving and relaxing session with Barbara. It is a time to pamper yourselves and to receive thanks for caring for others. Call HMHC at (575) 336-7777, or email at HMHC to reserve your special space.

Thank You to all Nurses!

For Earth Day: April 22, 2008

Tuesday, Earth Day!

"Earth Day is a name used for two different observances, both held annually during spring in the northern hemisphere, and autumn in the southern hemisphere. These are intended to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the Earth's environment. The United Nations celebrates Earth Day, which was founded by John McConnell in 1969, each year on the March equinox, while a global observance originated by Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in, and since January 1970 also called Earth Day, is celebrated in many countries each year on April 22."  (From Wikipedia)

Visit the official site of International Earth Day to find a ton of information on when, why, and how John McConnell came to write the Earth Charter, to view the Earth Magna Charta document, to read about McConnell's biographies and his thoughts on Global Peace. The site also explains the origin of St Francis Day and the Minutes of Peace, both practiced in December.Earthflag

Earth Day Flag, designed by McConnell

According to USAToday, this past Sunday, people "picked up garbage, turned in old cellphones and computers and took nature walks at pre-Earth Day events Sunday. Environmental leaders are aiming for an even bigger effort Tuesday, when they hope 1 million Americans will call their congressional representatives to lobby for legislation to fight global warming. On a more modest scale, grocery stores in Los Angeles will give away 50,000 reusable bags today and Tuesday, and, starting Tuesday, Whole Foods Market stores will no longer offer plastic bags."(Traci Watson, USAToday, April 20th)

Easy, simple things to do for each of us, every day...

Take a child, your family or friends to The Nature Conservancy Plant A Billion Trees interactive website where clicks take the viewers to The Atlantic Forest, to vitually "see" trees grow while reading their descriptions, etc. This is simply a cool, colorful, attractive browsing while learning about Trees.

Plant a tree if you have the space around you. Plant a virtual tree if you can click...

Go to A Sierra Club Quiz to figure out how soon an Energy Efficiency Buyer gets money back in the pocket while  shopping "green." I bet you'll do fine. Or be a wise crack like me, and completely fail the test!

Visit periodically Earth friendly sites to keep practicing Earth conscious living. One step at a time...

A Message from Barbara: HMHC, an Enlightened Collective

As I was reading Eckhart Tolle’s book “ A New Earth”  I came to the part about enlightened consciousness and enlightened collectives, it was then  I  realized that is the direction  we are moving toward here at High Mesa Healing Center. And it is an exciting time and place to be , here on planet Earth as she moves from the third dimension to the fifth dimension.

Tolle says “As new consciousness emerges, some people will feel called upon to form groups that reflect the enlightened consciousness. These groups will not be collective egos. The individuals who make up these groups will have no need to define their identity through them. They no longer look to any form to define who they are. Even if the members that make up those groups are not totally free of ego yet, there will be enough awareness in them to recognize the ego in themselves or in others as soon as it appears. However, constant alertness is required since the ego will try to take over and reassert itself in any way it can. Dissolving the human ego by bringing it into the light of awareness -----this will be the main purposes of these groups…….Enlightened collectives will fulfill an important function in the arising of the new consciousness. Just as egoic collectives pull you into unconsciousness and suffering, the enlightened collective can be a vortex for consciousness that will accelerate the planetary shift.”

For me this seems to describe the people and the groups that are a part of HMHC.That is what makes this a strong yet flexible spiritual community in the process of becoming what we came here to be and to do .

These are strong individuals who know who they are and what they want out of life. They seem to come to HMHC to meet and work with likeminded individuals and to learn and grow on all levels. These strong individuals have created some very strong groups i.e. : the Course of Miracles Study Group, the Wisdom Circle, Science of Mind Study Group, the Meditation Group, the ITP Group and the folks who follow the Native American tradition of the Sweat Lodge.  In these endeavors not only are they enlightened but the community is also enlightened. Being aware of this gives me fresh enthusiasm for this work we are all doing together.

This new awareness gives me the opportunity to look back and see just where I came from since I started this work some twenty years ago. At that time my by line was wholeness, personal and planetary wholeness.  I was working out of my suburban home in El Paso, Tx.  Having retired from my career in public health nursing I created a business that sponsored seminars and workshops. I also networked the American Holistic Nurses Association and sponsored Healing Touch classes. Then, when I moved to the mountains of Lincoln County my work expanded until I needed to create a healing center, HMHC. A place where I could see my private clients, teach classes and sponsor workshops and seminars. This has all been a process of growth and expansion on all levels. It went from wholeness to oneness to an enlightened collective.  I look forward to what the next step might bring, in the meantime I am just enjoying what I am doing and where I am.

Thank you, Barbara. Posted by NWH

Black Balloons

We are aware of how consumerism affects our planet. It just that so many daily activities have become routine necessities. That is just the way things are. It would be insane to choose to return to a home life of the past, were it at all possible. There is a choice however: that of consuming with awareness and  of reducing consumerism. To choose to be aware of how much is needed to live well,  and what else is just plain  consumerism . Sometimes graphics help in receiving and accepting a same old message. Take a few minutes to watch Black Balloons, a video featured by The Alliance for Climate Protection , a group of people urging others to adopt strategies to protect the climate of the planet.  HMHC supports Planetary Wellness and Wholeness. Reflections And Thanks From Barbara Mader

I am excited and feel privileged to be here in this place at this time in history, for I can see and feel so many positive changes occurring in so many places and on so many levels. You see, I do not listen to or watch the mainstream news.

In this month of December many are experiencing the powerful heart energy of the Christ Consciousness. This energy is helping each one of us to access the deep spiritual wisdom within our own hearts. This is the place of infinite power, possibility, and potential that is found at the heart of unconditional love. As we open our hearts to this energy with its powerful alignments, let us consider how we might create and live an "Authentic" life of freedom and joy.

'Authentic' means to recognize who we are within the flow and dance of life.  Authentic means recognizing that we are here to become our highest potential as a soul, to grow, to explore, to discover more of who we are through the joy of our creations.

How will we know when our life is authentic?  What are the symptoms?

We will feel within ourselves a deep sense of peace, joy, fulfillment, and gratitude, and a sense of a life well lived. If we do not feel those things now, we can know that with the present heart alignments, we are empowered to begin the shift towards this state of inner peace and joy.

So, let us work, together and individually, to live our authentic lives.  Together we can make a difference.

Christmas Blessings Are Over Flowing

Christmas came early this year here at High Mesa Healing Center.  It seems to have all started when David Fisk stopped by to ask about our hosting the Oneness Deeksha on Dec 9th.  This event was a real success with over 20 to receive the Deekshas moving us into oneness.  It warmed all of our hearts to have Gerald bring Rosemary out to join us.  This was the first time most of us had seen her since her serious illness and it was good to have her with us once again.

Then Tuesday the 11th, our friends, Boyd and Kelly Lynn arrived from Sedona to become a part of this community.  They come bringing their vision of creating the 7 Rays Ranch for children in our area, and what a blessing that will be for the community.  In the mean time they will assist us with Peace Village 2008.  Speaking of PV, we will be having a planning meeting Saturday the 22nd @ 5 pm.  We meet while the college students are home on break. It has been our pleasure to provide a safe space for the young folks to come here and just hang out playing games and just being together. We open our doors and welcome them whenever they want to be together in a safe environment.

All this has set the energy for the Winter Solstice followed by a mixed Sweat Lodge on Sat the 22nd @ 9am.  There will be a women's lodge on Sat the 29th.  What a beautiful way to finish out this calendar year.

Looking at where we are at this time of year we have to notice that we have an increase in the number of groups meeting here with more attendance in those groups.  And another group is forming to start in January, the Integral Transformative Practice (ITP). If you feel that you would like to participate in any of the activities you would be most welcome to join with us on this path of empowerment and joy.

Love,
Barbara

Great News for Boyd & Kelly of the 7 Rays project

We here at HMHC have just received a Christmas gift.
Thanks to some wonderful friends, Boyd and Kelly Lynn now have a place to house-sit. We just got a call from a friend in California who has a home here where they may live after the first of the year. In the meantime they are staying in another friend's summer cabin. What a wonderful demonstration of the generosity of spirit in this community. When they get settled into the community they will continue their focus on the 7 Ray Ranch for children.
Boyd and Kelly will help us out with Peace Village 2008 and we assist them where we can in the creation of their vision. They have already become an active part of this family here at HMHC, Boyd will be playing his flute for the Winter Solstice.  Both are looking forward to participating in the sweat lodge on the 22nd. Perfect timing for both events.

None of this could have happened without the teamwork of Kate, Dawn and Nadette.  With their collective computer skills we were able to communicate with each other and to get results. Welcome aboard Dawn and Nadette, welcome to the family. We are so fortunate to have this team of intelligent, enthusiastic and committed women. So much more is getting done with less effort, well as least on my part. I know that they are actually putting in the time to learn the system that Joel and Kate have designed. When I look at where we are this year compared to last year I am astonished and amazed and oh so pleased.  Thank you so much ladies for coming forward to be of service to this community.
